What year is it and where are we?

Recognize this logo? It is the logo for the nation wide anti-litter, pro-recycling campaign known as Pitch-in. I used to see this symbol quite a bit when I was a kid. The other anti-litter related logo/icon that sticks in my mind were those garbage cans all along the highways with the "litter bug" on the side. I guess what I am trying to say is, at some point growing up I think I was presented with some good solid anti-litter type messages.

These pages are intended to highlight Regina's lowlights, some of the spots I frequently come across that make me sick and sad. These spots are not owned or maintained by children or infants(presumably) and this being the case I would expect that these people should have been exposed to some of the same messages I was growing up and they should know better.

These pictures submitted by myself and others makes me think otherwise. Is it the wind? Is it the complete lack of hills made of anything other than garbage around Regina? Honestly what makes people drive by my house and fire a big bag of McD's garbage out the window. Seriously, I'd like to know. If you have an answer and think there's a solution, let me know because I would sincerely like to help stop this compulsion to litter.

I realize that this is a problem that is not at all unique to Regina, this just happens to be where I live and this is what i see. My intent is not to show ugly for ugly's sake but rather to hopefully inspire others to take a second look and think. Is i Regina just an empty slogan or does it mean something? If we see garbage maybe we could pick it up. If we see a business with neglected premises perhaps we could let them know. Public space belongs to all of us, so don't be afraid to pick up in a park or alley. A little effort on everyone's part can make a difference.
